When we are not showing our own dogs, we use the excellent services of the professional handler team of Bill Buell and Erin Hines of SUBIRA St. Bernards. It can be challenging to find trustworthy professional handlers who work well with the dogs as well as make the experience a fun and rewarding one. Bill and Erin are exactly what I look for in a professional handler, which is a healthy mix of loving care for the dogs they are entrusted with, superior show ring handling skills, a can-do attitude to address each dog’s individual needs, all tempered with a dose of humor. Bill and Erin are very detail-oriented with respect to all aspects of dog handling, grooming, and preparing a dog for the show ring. They understand that the way a dog shows in the ring is the culmination of many months of preparation, including conditioning, training, regular grooming, and bonding. Ribbons and wins are certainly nice to have and the dogs have had their share of these already with Bill and Erin. However, what is most important to me is that I am completely confident that the dogs entrusted to Bill and Erin are impeccably taken care of, loved, groomed, and trained, at each dog show that they have attended with them. I know this because I myself have traveled right alongside Bill and Erin at several shows and I have seen how they care for the dogs in their care. With Bill and Erin, “the dogs come first” isn’t just a saying, it is truth.
